Messi equals 68 years Copa del Rey goals record

 

Lionel Messi who has been Barca’s main attacking force this season performed exceptionally well once again against Sevilla by scoring and providing two as the Catalans ran rampage at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

Messi’s goal after Luis Suarez’s opener saw the Argentine equal Telmo Zarra’s scoring record in the final of the Copa del Rey.

The Estadio Wanda Metropolitano played host to a piece of history as the 30-year-old equalled a record that had stood for 68 years.

His first-half strike was his sixth in Copa del Rey finals throughout his career in Spanish football and it’s worth remembering that he’s now scored in five different finals of the tournament.

Furthermore, the La Masia graduate continued his fine run against Sevilla, taking his tally against the Andalusian club to 32 goals in 34 matches.
