Ex-PPMC boss: First to die from the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria
A former Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Suleiman Achimugu, has been identified as the first Nigerian to die from the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria.
According to available information, the ex-PPMC boss returned from the United Kingdom about two week ago having undergone what the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control described as a “medical procedure”.
According to the information, when Achimugu, who was identified as a 67-year-old by the NCDC, on Tuesday started exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, his family reported to the NCDC.
A team from the NCDC was said to have gone to his home to take his blood specimen, but never got back to the family.
The source added: “As of yesterday afternoon, he was coughing profusely.
“So they called the NCDC to inquire about his results.
“It turned out positive.
“They picked him up and rushed him to Gwagwalada (the hospital with isolation centre for in factious disease in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja).
“He died at 2am this morning.
“His family are currently under quarantine in their house.
“The NCDC will handle the burial.”
