COVID-19: Kwara Dep Gov, wife test positive hours after holding birthday party in office

The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Kayode Alabi and his wife Abieyuwa have tested positive for COVID-19 some hours after hosted a party to celebrate his 57th birthday in Ilorin allegedly in contravention of the state Covid-19 protocols.
It was gathered that staff in his office had organised a surprise birthday bash for the deputy governor and his wife who accompanied him to the office last on Monday.
Although the event lasted about one hour, the couple came to the office around past 11:00 am mixed freely with the staff who were struggled to take photograph with him.
One of the staff who attended that surprise birthday party told National Pilot it was the next morning after event that news of his positive status with his wife filtered in causing panic among many of them how came in contact with them.
“If you know the Deputy Governor, you can hardly not relate or get close to him. He is very nice to all the staff and that was why they decided to honour him with the party in the first place. So many of us took pictures with him and had contract with him. But we have all been contact traced now”, the source added.
It could not be confirmed whether the results of their test had been out last night.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the deputy governor and his wife submitted themselves for COVID-19 test on Monday after showing slight symptoms of the virus.
“The results of their test are positive. The second couple are very stable and in high spirit, and are now undergoing standard management protocols supervised by the government’s medical team,” the statement added.
