More details emerged last night about how a gang of armed robbers killed a police inspector, Isiaka Taofeeq Amuda in an attempt to stop an ATM attack in Geri-Alimi area, Ilorin on Tuesday.
Amuda, from Adewole wards in Ilorin, same place where Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq hailed from served in Division ‘B’ police station, Surulere, Ilorin and was survived by eight children, father and two wives among others.
He reportedly died on the spot during a gun duel with the armed gang while two other officers sustained bullet injuries.
His remains has since been buried according to Islam right by the family.
It was gathered that, the injured officers were taken to an undisclosed hospital and are presently responding to treatment.
The gang on Tuesday targeted an Automated Teller Machine point at a branch of Kasbushat supermarket located in Geri-Alimi.
Eyewitness said the hoodlums stormed the premises during the midnight, and started operation immediately after having tied down the supermarket’s security personnel.
But speaking on the incident, a top police source officer who spoke on condition of anonymity told our reporter that, the officers were on patrol on that day of the incident.
“They were on patrol along the Geri-Alimi area and discovered the particular ATM machine light was off.
“Our men reverse their vehicle to confirm the situation. When they get there they flash their touch light at the ATM machine direction and in the process, the armed robbers open fire at them and they started a gun dwell. The driver was shot in the process and died.
“Two other officers also sustained injury. One of the robbers was shot but escaped with the gun injury with his colleagues”, he added. “
The Kwara Police PRO Ajayi Okasanmi who confirmed the incident said the police are mourning adding that they have lost one of the best officers of the command.
“We are still in shock of our slain officer, the police have commenced investigation on the matter and other injured officers are receiving treatment”, Okasanmi added.
When this medium visited the deceased family house at Oke-Agodi, Oladele Compound in Ilorin, sympathizers massed at his residence to condole the family. There were police officers from Surulere division.
Speaking with our reporter, the slain officer’s father, Alhaji Amuda Oladele described him as a gentle person and the bread winner of the family.
“When I left Ilorin to settle in Abuja, he took care of the family for me. My mind is always at rest that I have someone at home and he always carry me along in his decisions. He was the peacemaker in the family. I’m planning to have a wedding for my daughters on April 10, he took the larger share of the wedding expenses. He hardly fights with anyone. He left eight children for me which I don’t have the power, both physical and financial power to take good care of them”.
He called on to the Nigeria Police Force, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the Kwara State Government to come to his aide as regard education of the deceased children.
His wives, Maryam and Hidyat described their husband as a lover of his family and that the load he left is beyond what they carry all alone.
Narrating on how she received the breaking news, Maryam said her late husband was supposed to return home by 6pm but when she didn’t see him, she called his number but no response before she later decided to go to his office before family members later broke the news of his death to her.
