Lack of justice, bane of our security, economic predicament – Imam Yunus
By Mumini Abdulkareem
An Imam of Sheikh Abdulkadir Sholagberu Central Mosque, Taiwo Road, Ilorin, Muhammad Jamiu Yunus has identified lack of justice in the country as the bane of our security problem.
Jamiu stressed this on Friday during his sermon themed “Justice” shortly before the traditional two unit prayers to mark the weekly service.
According to him, Muslim faithful should always act justly and be transparent in all they do and attributed the myriad of problems presently facing the country as a direct consequence of inequality among the citizens.
Imam Jamiu, who recalled the exploit and successes of past Muslims leaders because of quest for justice and equality always, noted that the society cannot overcome the present security and economic challenges unless there is deliberate attempt to promote justice and equity among citizens irrespective of the status and position of those involved.
He said “If we all look at the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his noble companions, one of their best and most evident characters is equality, equity and social Justice, which in turn brought about peace of mind and ease in their daily lives”
“As Muslims and non Muslims alike, we must reflect on the life and leadership offered by Sayiddina Umar, the second Khalifa of Islam and his principle of equity that came to the fore when Islam ruled the world. When France sent an envoy to him, the visitor was surprised he found the leader of the Muslims, Sayiddina Umar humbly sleeping outside under a tree with no sign of royalty or splendor or any security details around him. That implies his level of simplicity and social justice in his governance and also his level of accountability. He dispensed justice and was very secured unlike what we have today.
“Today, leaders are afraid of their subjects and can hardly embark on such action. Our own leaders before you can meet them, you have to go through numerous security details. Regardless of how God endow our nation, if we don’t go back to promote justice and equity, we will not have security and peace of mind and when we have peace of mind, every other things will fall in place”, he added.
The Imam enjoined the leaders to follow the footstep of Umar in their governance of the people that are entrusted to them and imbibe the culture of equality and social justice.
