Kwara IPAC rejects TlC, demand conduct of LG poll

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Kwara State chapter has faulted the composition and inauguration of members of the Transition Implementation Committees (TlC) in the 16 local government areas of the state.
IPAC expressed its displeasure on the appointment in a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman of lPAC, Mr Adebayo Akadi and the Secretary, Mr Oyedeji Oyekunle.
According to the statement, the lPAC which is an umbrella body of all other registered political parties in the state said it was not carried along in the appointment of the TlC members in all the 16 local government areas of the state.
The statement alleged that the TlC members across the councils were illegally constituted by the state government adding that “The setting up of caretaker committee under whatever guise to replace the Constitutionally elected officers for local government administration as contained in the 1999 constitution as amended was illegal”.
“We kick against any such plot because of the danger inherent in taking an extra – constitutional step of this nature under a democratic dispensation”, it added.
The body noted that IPAC in the state will not support illegality that does not conform with the constitution and called on the state government to as a matter of urgency set a machine in motion to constitute Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) to conduct Local Government Elections in the state.
“’This is the only way all the political parties can be carried along in conformity with the Independent Electoral Commission for the conduct of the local government councils election where all the registered political matters will participate”, it submitted.
