Duo landed in prison for robbery

An Ilorin Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 16th June, 2021 remanded two suspects in the correctional facility on accusation of robbery.

The two suspects, Akeem Lekan and Tunji Oladeji, were arraigned before Magistrate Muhammed Kola Aluko on the charges of Criminal Conspiracy and attempted armed robbery

The charges ‘Criminal Conspiracy and attempted armed robbery was said to contravene the section 6(b) and 2(1) of robbery and firearms (Special Provision) act cap R11 LFN 2004.

The suspects, were caught in the act while attempting to rob one Abdulqudus Olamilekan of his Bajaj motorcycle, popularly called Okada by community members of Lasoju village, a modest community in Asa local government area of Kwara state, who came to the victim’s rescue.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), it was revealed that the suspects stopped the victim (Olamilekan) along airport area, Ilorin, requesting him to convey them to Eiyenkorin, also in Ilorin.

When they got to Eiyenkorin In their sinister scheme, the duo further asked Olamilekan to take them to Lasoju village.

But while on the way, the suspects showed their true intentions, allegedly slapping the victim and brandishing a knife threatening to stab him and snatch his motorcycle.

In a turn of event and a desperate bid to save his dear life and property, Olamilekan raised an alarm which call the people’s attention to them and led to the eventual arrest of the two suspects.

In his submission, the prosecuting counsel, Abdulwasiu Mukadam prayed the court to order the remand of the suspects in the correctional facility,adding that the charges of robbery is not an ordinary bailable offence, urging the court to allow the law take its full course over the matter.

However, the case was adjourned to 29th June, 2021, Magistrate Aluko ceded to the prayer of the prosecuting counsel, ordering the remand of the suspects in the Federal Correctional Service.
