Alimi confident Sunshine Stars can escape relegation

Sikiru Alimi is upbeat about Sunshine Star’s survival chances in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The Owena Whales are 18th on the log with 28 points from 24 outings no thanks to strings of poor results at home.

And the forward who has scored crucial goals for Henry Abiodun’s men this term feels his team has the gut to avoid the drop no minding their precarious state.

“I have experienced relegation before with Warri Wolves,” Alimi told NPFL website.

“We still have a chance to escape this because the other teams above us are not far away. As a team, we just need to work hard and hope results go our way.

“Remember we had three points deducted from us due to crowd issues but we don’t want to dwell on that anymore as we want to do our best.

“But I also want my goals to save my club from going on relegation which is very important for me, my team-mates, the coaches and our supporters.”
