Ekong schoolboy error condemns Watford to first loss

William Ekong’s schoolboy error that led to Brighton second goal just before half time was one of the major reasons Watford suffered their first loss of the new Premier League season.
Ekong, who will be expected to lead the Super Eagles in next month’s World Cup qualifiers, tried to play the ball from defence, but his teammate was already marked and Brighton stole the ball to double their lead.
The timing of the goal and the manner it was let in certainly left a sour taste in the mouth of a team who got off to a flying start with a 3-2 home win over Aston Villa the previous weekend.
Ekong also failed to deal with the aerial ball that led to the opening goal.
Watford looked ordinary and fellow Nigeria stars Emmanuel Dennis and Oghenekaro Etebo, who shone like a million stars versus Aston Villa, failed to convince.
