By Jimoh Sulyman
Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, a socio-political group, has called on the federal government to repair the damaged segments of the new Ilorin-Jebba Road, which is forcing articulated lorries to pass through the traditional parts of the city of Ilorin.
This was noted in a statement issued yesterday, 5th of September 2021, signed by the National publicity secretary of the body, Abubakar Imam on behalf of the President, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, fsi
The release was said to contain the address of the group’s president, speaking at an event in Ilorin over the weekend.
The statement has it that, “for the past few weeks the people of Ilorin living at Ogidi, Oloje, Pakata, Adeta and Alfa Yahaya have contended with the increased volume of traffic in their vicinities with confusion and threat to life and property partly as a result of the drivers concerned who lack the knowledge of the city roads”.
Adding that the articulated lorries are also a threat to the intracity roads which are getting continuously damaged by their exposure to such lorries with huge loads.
The group therefore, appealed to the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, (SAN), to ensure that immediate actions are taken to save the people of the affected parts of Ilorin from accidents, congestion and further destruction of the roads.
