Members-elect extol Kwara Assembly over induction

Kwara State House of Assembly members – elect have said the three-day training organised for them by the state House of Assembly, has adequately prepared them for the task of providing credible platform for good governance.
The lawmakers-elect gave the indication in Ilorin while speaking at the end of the last training session of the programme tagged; “Mock Session”.
They commended the initiative of the House under the leadership of the Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad, the Consultant and the facilitators of the programme.
In his remarks, the only ranking lawmaker and member representing Ojomu/Balogun constituency, Offa, Hon. Saheed Popoola, said of all the training programmes on legislative practices in London, Edinburgh, Dublin, and Ghana, the training by the Kwara Assembly, was the best.
Popoola, added that members-elect were initially sceptical, but the outcome had been rewarding as they are now better equipped on the rudiments of legislative practices and procedures.
Also speaking, member- elect for Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe constituency, Alhaji Abdullahi Haliru Danbaba, said the training had broadened their horizon and assured that knowledge acquired would translate into providing quality legislation even as he eulogised the House for its foresight.
Equally, member-elect for Afon constituency, Alhaji Abdul Wahab Opakunle, observed with delight that topics designed for the programme were appropriate and thoroughly treated in a serene environment devoid of distraction and praised the House for ensuring a hitch free exercise.
The consultant, Hon. Isiaka Mogaji, in his remarks, expressed confidence that the training acquired by the incoming 9th Legislature, would prepare them for the enormous tasks ahead.
He also enjoined them to be more focused and united like their outgoing counterparts in order to sustain pacesetting status of the House among other state legislatures in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the facilitators, Sen. Balla Adamu, attributed the success of the training to the patriotic zeal, intellectual capability and leadership quality of the Speaker and the commitment of the Clerk, Hajia Halimat Jummai Kperogi.
He therefore urged the incoming legislators to sustain the quality of legislation which, according to him, made the Kwara State House of Assembly a cynosure of all eyes not only in Nigeria, but across the globe.
Responding on behalf of the House, the Deputy Clerk, Alhaji Olayiwola Ahmed, said the House was humbled by the kind words of the participants, facilitators and consultant and assured that staffers of the legislative arm would continue to serve as the engine room of quality legislative service delivery for accelerated socio-economic transformation of the state.

The Speaker declared the training open on Thursday, at Whitefields Hotel, Ilorin. He explained that it became expedient to ensure that members-elect understand the rudiments of legislative practices for better performance.
