Awoniyi Nominated For EPL Player Of The Month After Stellar Outings For Forest

Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has been nominated for the English Premier League Player of the Month award for August, following his strong start to the new season.

The Nigerian international registered three goals in Forest’s first three league games, including strikes against traditional top sides, Arsenal and Manchester United. He is nominated alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison, Manchester City’s Rodri, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.

Awoniyi’s nomination recognises his key contributions as Forest has earned four points from their first three matches. The 26-year-old’s early season form has extended his prolific stretch at the end of last season which saw him help Forest remain in the top flight of English football. He has now scored in seven consecutive league games, matching feats by Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor as African players in the EPL.

Awoniyi’s performances have also earned him another call-up to the Nigerian national team squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe. He will be aiming to transfer his club form to the international stage when the two teams meet on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The EPL will announce the Player of the Month winner on Friday, September 9. Awoniyi will be hoping he can cap off an excellent start to the campaign with that individual accolade.
