Following the recent changes in academic curriculum of secondary schools which led to the removal of religious subjects, the Federal Government has been urged to adopt peaceful measures in policy formulation and implementation.
This among others, were the submission of some educationists during an interview with National Pilot at the Prize Giving Day Celebration of Queens Elizabeth School, Ilorin, recently.
Speaking on the issue, Hajia Ramat Abdulrahman, Principal, Senior Section of the college noted that policies are made to put the country in good position and as such there is need to consider the importance of religious studies.
She however lamented that, “Where there is going to be changes to academic curriculum, there is need for ample time for preparation before implementation.”
Abdulrahman who enjoined the students to take their academic pursuit seriously called for the support of the government in rehabilitation of the school.
Also, the Principal of the Universal Basic Education Section, Hajia Nike Omoladun Ogunwale said that there is need to adopt measures that will continue to promote the unity of the country whenever the curriculum is to be restructured.
In his remarks, the Chairman Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the college, Alhaji Isiaka Salawu, said that the performance of the students is an indication of the huge efforts of the school management and implored them to continue in that direction.
In similar vein, the Guest Speaker, Miss Faith Okigbo urged the students to be focused and not be influenced while making their career choice.
Speaking on the topic: ‘Career Path,’ the guest speaker enjoined the students to explore the opportunity of setting their goals and plans earlier.
“There are a lot of people that are waiting for you in the university that will want to jeopardise your career, so you have to be focused by securing admission or learn a trade after secondary school,” she added.
The event however witnessed the presentation of gifts for best students in all subjects from the junior to the senior section. The overall best senior student was awarded to Adeniran Ridwanat who also doubled as the best student in Mathematics while the best junior student award was won by Saad Faridat. Best Junior student in Mathematics; Yusuf Mubarak, English was awarded to Olagunju Susan while Ibrahim Bilikis went home with the award in English (Senior category).
