The alumni association of the Kwara State University, (KWASU), Malete is presently enmeshed in allegation of N50 million fraud.
According to a petition addressed to the Zonal Head, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ilorin, dated 20th March 2019, signed by one Biliaminu Aremu Abiola, it accused the Peter Damilare Oyinloye led alumni association executives of mismanaging the estimated sum of N50million being the accrued due of graduands of the institution.
The petition which was published by an online medium, ‘freshinsight.tv‘ reads, “I am petitioning for an investigation into how the Kwara State University Alumni Association manage the annual due paid by it members, which since 2013 till date have not been properly accounted for to all concerned members.
“The estimated total amount of all the money that has been paid into the association account will not be less than N50million and the National Executive which oversee this affair include Peter Damilare Oyinloye (President), Jimoh Sodiq (Treasurer), Toheeb Olabanji (Publicity Secretary) and Sanni Yusuf (General Secretary).
“This became an issue of serious concern when the National Executive Council Association refused to publish the edited financial statement of the association for transparency sake and even deliberately omitted publication of annual publication of financial statement in the draft constitution of the association. Despite the interest of members in the financial proprietary of the association.
“Being a graduate of the institution, KWASU since 2015 and most importantly having paid all my dues, I felt I deserve to know how the dues paid by all members of the association is effectively and efficiently used and it is in this regards that I seek your indulgence to use your good office to bring the financial status of the association to bear in the interest of the association.”
However, when contacted on the telephone, last night, the President of the alumni association, Oyinloye said the allegations are baseless.
He added that the claim was fabricated by those who lost out in the election.
He said, “What I can say boldly is that the association has never raised revenue of N50million from inception. The association has never cumulatively raise up to N18 million. This allegation, I believe, it is an imaginary story cooked up by those who lost in the March election of the association. The question we should ask is why are they writing the petition now?
“Alumni dues are paid through the school’s account and a simple inquiry letter to the school would show that the petitioners are chasing shadows. They should approach the school to know how much had been remitted to us since inception.
“Those who contributed in the petition, they were the ones that participated in the election and lost out. The election was done online, it was not a student poll but for the alumni. People from all walks of life voted for us,” he stated.
Speaking further, Oyinloye, who said that the EFCC is yet to summon him or any member of the alumni executives over the issue however expressed confidence that they are ready to prove that the allegation was not true.
