Nigeria’s new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has vowed to tackle crime head-on and rid the nation of criminality.
The IGP spoke to State House correspondents on Tuesday, after he was decorated by the Vice President, Kassim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja
He said, “Now that I have just been decorated, I am looking forward to taking over tomorrow morning at 11am.
“I really can’t describe how I feel presently, but if I have to tell you anything, I will tell you that right now I feel like a tiger inside of me, ready to chase away all the criminals in Nigeria.
“And at other times, I feel like a lion in me, ready to devour all the internal enemies of Nigeria. That’s my feeling right now.”
President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, approved the appointment of Egbetokun as acting Inspector General of Police after he retired former IG Usman Alkali Baba.
On Tuesday, Alkali Baba expressed his confidence in the new leader, emphasising their shared history and their collaborative work over the years.
The former IGP expressed his confidence in Egbetokun’s ability to champion the cause of the police.
