The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Chiefs, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has reaffirmed the unwavering backing of the state’s traditional institution for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its ongoing campaign against corruption.

The monarch expressed this commitment during a courtesy visit by Mr. Daniel Isei, Director of the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Office, who was accompanied by senior members of his team to the Emir’s Palace.

Commending the Commission’s steadfast work in tackling economic and financial crimes, the Emir pledged full cooperation from the royal institution. He noted that Kwara State is home to “courteous and peace-loving” people and emphasized that winning the war on corruption requires unity, grassroots involvement, and shared determination.

Dr. Sulu-Gambari, who previously served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, offered fervent prayers for EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, as he leads the agency in its demanding national assignment.

The Emir fondly reminisced about his attendance at the inauguration of the Commission’s state-of-the-art office in Ilorin, reaffirming his continuous support for the agency’s mandate. He also conveyed royal blessings to the visiting delegation and assured them that the palace stands ready to collaborate with the EFCC whenever needed.

“You have our support, our prayers, and our doors are always open,” he declared,” according to a statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewole.

In his earlier comments, Isei highlighted the vital influence traditional leaders wield in guiding societal values and promoting a culture of transparency and responsibility.

“Though I have been in Ilorin for less than a month, I chose to visit Your Royal Highness first because I recognize the pivotal role of the traditional institution in building public trust and achieving meaningful, lasting impact in the fight against corruption,” he said.

“I am operating within your domain. We earnestly seek your support, your prayers, and your wise counsel to help us fulfill our constitutional mandate,” he said

Isei noted that the visit aimed to deepen ties with the traditional institution and seek the Emir’s blessings in furthering the Commission’s mission in Kwara State.

He also called for the royal father’s support in tackling the growing concerns of cybercrime and unlawful mining activities troubling the region.

The Zonal Director took the opportunity to warmly congratulate the Emir on his recent 85th birthday, offering heartfelt wishes for enduring health and continued guidance in leadership.
