Residents of Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State were gripped by fear in the early hours of Sunday following the abduction of a well-known agro-chemical trader, popularly called Alhaji Chemical.

According to local sources, the victim was seized from his home in the Taiwo district of the town around 1:00 a.m. by gunmen believed to be Fulani bandits. The attackers, who stormed the area on motorcycles, reportedly outgunned local vigilantes stationed in the community and swiftly took the businessman to an undisclosed location.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the assailants appeared highly organized and may have specifically targeted the victim, fueling suspicions that the operation was premeditated.

The abduction has sparked widespread concern among Lafiagi residents, many of whom are alarmed by the growing insecurity in the region. Calls are mounting for security operatives to immediately launch a search-and-rescue operation to locate and recover the kidnapped trader.

Community members are urging authorities to move decisively, not only to ensure the safe return of Alhaji Chemical but also to curtail the rising wave of kidnappings destabilizing local communities.

As of press time, efforts to obtain a response from the Kwara State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful, as calls to her line were not answered.
