The Vice Chancellor, of Kwara State University, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’ Allah has urged the graduands of the institution to be creative, innovative and to demonstrate entrepreneurship skills stressing that they should be employers of labour rather than job seekers.
Na’ Allah gave the charge at the weekend during the 6th Convocation ceremony of the school adding that the graduands should take advantage of various ideas to expand the world.
“Someone said there are three kinds of people; those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder how what on earth had happened I know you will all be making things happen.
“The world is full of ideas, take advantage of it to expand your world,” he said.
Speaking further, the VC said 1,126 graduands had degrees from six Colleges with 30 First class, 522 Second class Upper division, 508 Lower division, 60 Third class and 120 postgraduates from five colleges across various programmes.
He added that for the first time in history, KWASU conferred four doctoral degrees in three programmes; Political Science, Computer Science and Islamic Studied.
He however called for collaboration from industries, organisations and individuals to assist in lightening the burden by partnering with them and invest in their vision.
In his remarks, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, who was represented by the Head of Service, Mrs Susan Oluwole, while highlighting the giant strides of the state government in the education sector, advised the graduands to be responsible and be global citizens.
In his speech, former United Nation envoy and Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Agboola Gambari has called on graduands of the institution not to allow themselves to be used or manipulated by politicians to create unrest in the society.
Gambari however called on the graduands to show keen interest in who governs them and the emergence of their leaders.
Speaking further, he said certificates of the graduates were issued based on character and learning, urging them to go into the world and distinguish themselves.
The Chancellor called on government to empower the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free fair election in 2019 and beyond.
He also called for an end to impunity and zero tolerance for manipulation of elections adding that 2019 election must be the game changer.
In his remarks, the acting Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Kola Yusuf listed the deplorable condition of the road linking the institution to neighbouring communities, water scarcity and inadequate vehicles as the major challenges facing the university.
Additionally, Yusuf said funding has been a major setback since the cessation of subvention from the state government due to economic downturn in the country.
He however urged the state government to address those challenges with a view to make the institution one of the best in Africa.
