2019: Christians advised to participate in politics

By Kayode Adeoti
Christians across the country have been urged to participate in the forthcoming 2019 general elections in Nigeria and stop assuming that politics is dirty and evil.
The visiting Minister of God to Calvary Baptist Church, Ilorin, Reverend Joshua Sunday Ajayi gave the charge yesterday, just as he stressed that Christians must contribute their quota to ensure that right persons emerge leaders in the 2019 election.
The clergyman further emphasized his point by quoting from the book of Proverbs chapter 29 verse 2, saying “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked ruled, the people mourn.”
Reverend Ajayi maintained that it’s not good when Christians fail to exercise their civic right to vote and be voted for in an election.
“It’s a wrong notion that politics is dirty and evil and that Christians should not be involved in it. If we continue with this assumption, we will never be able to get it right and we will continue to be at the mercy of the wicked.
“Some people believe they won’t make heaven if they join politics, I don’t know where they read that in the Bible. Why should we continue allowing evils to rule when we have what it takes to rule in a Godly way, Reverend Ajayi noted.
He also charged Christians to shun all difficulties and endeavour to get the permanent voters cards, saying it is the only tool one can use to vote during election.
He further stressed that Christians should stop assuming that their votes will not counts.
The clergyman said, “if we all assumed that votes will not count, then we will not all vote. Today, many Christians believe this hence, they never register to partake in the poll by obtaining their PVC. We can see how we destroy our democratic institution gradually.
“How many Christians do we have in the House of Assembly, Representatives even the Senates? Few! It’s high time we changed our mentality and get divinely active about Nigeria politics.”
