For the second time in less than a month, Nigerians on social media have preferred Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki over President Muhammadu Buhari as the leader of the country come 2019.
Although the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has not fixed date for the party’s primaries, Saraki has emerged the leading aspirant among the contenders for the party’s ticket.
The new poll which was conducted by a tweeter user, Josh with the handle @sire_liljosh gave Saraki 52 per cent while Buhari got 48 per cent.
25, 206 Nigerians participated in the internet survey with the question “If Saraki and Buhari were the only presidential aspirants left standing, who would you vote for?
Saraki has become the most discussed politician in the country lately and has continued to dominate the media space and online platforms in the last few months.
Many evangelists including Apostle Omotosho Tope Joseph and Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele of INRI Spiritual and Evangelical Church, respectively, predicted victory for the Senate President in next year’s presidential election.
Few weeks ago, another cross section of Nigerians had chosen Saraki over Buhari in a poll conducted on tweeter by an activist, Bolanle Cole (@bolanle_cole).
Cole had requested respondents to shun abusive words in their responses but should be based on current performance and leadership skills.
While critics have lashed out at the national assembly for not leaving up to expectations, the lawmakers have contradicted that narrative adding that the 8th Assembly remains the best since the county’s return to democracy in 1999.
Recently, the Senate under the leadership of Dr Bukola Saraki released a voluminous document where it detailed all the facts and figures to drive home the point that it has surpassed previous senate both in the quality of it bills and the impact on the society despite the enormous challenges it has faced.
