The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Kwara State has demanded that the state government should clear backlog of salary arrears of Local Government workers.
The union, also wants the state government to implement the 10 per cent Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for health workers in local governments of the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by NULGE state President, Comrade Yusuf Salihu and made available to National Pilot, at the weekend.
The statement reads: “We want the state government to intensify effort in clearing the salary arrears of the local councils workers across the 16 Local Government Areas, State Universal Basis Education Board (SUBEB) teachers and pensioners.
“Implementation of 10 per cent CONHESS for health workers in the local government councils and stoppage of junior secondary school teachers’ salary deduction from the local government allocation.
“Adherence to constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria by the state government on payment of primary school teachers salary, return of the major revenue items taken over by Kwara State Internal Revenue Service to the local councils.
“Implementation of 20 per cent salary increment and harmonisation of the year 2010 CONHESS pensioners in the local government and increment in the funds to local government pension board for the settlement of some of their gratuities.”
He, however, appreciated the state Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for approving the implementation of promotions for local government staff from 2016 to year 2017  and that of the primary school teachers (SUBEB) from 2013 to 2016.
He said, “This gesture will no doubt boost the morale and productivity level of workers in this category. In the same vein, we are applauding the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki who intends to clear the arrears as this will also bring succour to the teeming plight of the workers.
“We also want to acknowledge the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Kwara Branch, Local Government Service Commission and the labour unions in the state for their untiring effort towards ensuring that the implementation becomes a reality.”
