We’Il not spare smugglers, Customs warns

The Nigeria Customs service has warned that any smuggler caught
would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Leader of the Special Task Force team, Assistant Comptroller General
Of Customs, Mr Aminu Dahiru, gave the warning while addressing newsmen
at the Customs headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The team which is saddled with responsibilities of securing Nigeria
Borders in line with recent pronouncement of partial closure of
Nigeria Borders by President Muhammadu Buhari, vowed not to spare
anyone caught in attempts to smuggle contraband into the country.
Speaking on the recent raid of markets in Ilorin, he alleged that
popular Rice merchant, Mount Olive wrongly accused the Ilorin
Command Officers of wrongly confisticating his goods.
He added that the issue is undergoing investigation by the special
investigative panel set up by superior authorities.
Dahiru, however, appealed to people to desist from smuggling banned
items into the country, saying the act is killing local industries.
He explained that the team was set up to operate under the name
“Joint Border Operation Drill” assigned with duties to go against
smuggling of banned goods into Nigeria and prevent illegal immigrants
from entering the country for security reasons.
The team leader, therefore, solicited support of general public in the
fight against smuggling, disclosing that the North Central Team Of the
Joint Border Operation Drill has recorded landmark achievements within
few days of its inauguration.
