122 yrs of Etsu Nupe’s reign in Patigi

 

Patigi Traditional Council emerged when the British conquered Bida in
1897 at a conquest which placed the control of Niger stretch to the
Original Etsu Nupes’ at Patigi in 1898.
As a reward for the contribution of Idris Gana I towards the fall of
Bida, Patigi Traditional Council was created with Patigi as its
Headquarters. Idris Gana I who was a descendant of Etsu Yisa and his
predecessors had endured foreign subjugation for long, therefore the
coming of British was a blessing to the eclipsed dynasty.
Etsu Idris Gana I moved to Patigi town with all his children, slaves
and admirers from Bida. All of his male descendants were allowed to
contest the vacant stool.
In 1900, Etsu Gana I died and his son Muazu Yissa ascended the throne
of his forefathers. Around 1906-1907, the British administration
decided districts be created for effective administration and Tax
collection.
The Etsu was graded second class in 1905. Muazu Yissa ruled for 23
years and was succeeded by Usman Tsado who ruled for 8 years and then
dethroned, which gave birth to the reign of Etsu Umaru Bologi I Muazu
in 1931.
Etsu Bologi ruled for almost 36 years and was succeeded by one of his
sons, Idris Gana II, during which the stool was graded First class and
also become a member of Kwara State Council of Chiefs.
Etsu Gana II ruled for 32 years, he died in 1998 and was succeeded by
Etsu Ibrahim Chatta Umar, one of the sons of Etsu Umaru Bologi I. He
became the Vice Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs and also
Chairman, Patigi Emirate Council and was also awarded a National
Honors: – Officer of the Order of Niger (OON) in 2005, by the
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Etsu Ibrahim Chatta Umar (OON) ruled for 20 years, he died in March
2019 and then succeeded by one of his Sons, Etsu Umar Bologi II
Ibrahim on 18th April 2019.
