The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr Babatunde Fowler has said that the new Tax Identification Number (TIN) Registration System is geared towards reinforcing laudable efforts of the Federal Government towards building a robust tax-revenue administration system for the country.
He stated this while speaking at the North Central Geopolitical Zone official flag off ceremony for the New TIN organised by the Joint Tax Board, JTB in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital on Thursday.
Fowler, who is also the Chairman of the Joint Tax Board (JTB) noted that in the last four years, economic policies of the present administration had focused on establishing a stable foundation for further socioeconomic growth and development and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his achievements.
He also commended the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service for executing far reaching IGR reform and for becoming the only state revenue agency in Nigeria certified with ISO 90001 for quality management system and ISO 22301 for business continuity management system.
The Executive Secretary of the JTB, Mr Oseni Elamah said the new registration system would enable taxpayers have easy access to the system once they are connected with the internet anywhere in the world.
In his address, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq tasked Chairmen of Internal Revenue Services across the country to prioritise drive of improved Tax Collection System.
Governor Abdulrazaq who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi described Tax Payment as integral to the growth and development of every economy which must be embraced by every working person who wants to see improvement especially in infrastructure across the country and commended the Joint Tax Board for what he described as laudable initiative.
The Governor expressed optimism that the launch of the National Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) Registration System and Consolidated National Taxpayers Database would increase coverage of the Taxpayers and simplify Tax Process across the North Central Region.
The programme was attended by revenue collectors and administrators from Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau and Federal Capital Territory as well as others financial experts in different disciplines.
