Businessman arrested for N1.5m fraud in Ilorin

Men of the Kwara State Police Command on Friday arrested a 52-year- old charcoal dealer, Bashiru Dairo.
He was nabbed for allegedly defrauding one Jumoke Oladimeji and another victim simply identified as Oguntuase to the tune of N1,575,000.
The suspect was said to have duped his victims on the pretext of doing business with them sometime in June this year.
It was gathered that Dairo collected the sum of N660,000 from Oladimeji and N915,000 from Oguntuase a resident of Alekuwodo area in Osogbo, Osun State for supply of four and twelve containers of charcoal respectively.
According to a police source, “Dairo fraudulently, deceitfully and conveniently collected the sum of one million, five hundred and seventy-five thousand naira only (N1,575,000) from his two victims.
” The victims said that after two weeks when the suspect didn’t show up or deliver the product they paid for as agreed, they put calls to him and he promised to deliver it but still renege on his promise.
” They then went to the address he gave but his absence was met -and where about unknown. When the victims put calls through to him again, he threatened to send hire killers to them,” the source divulged.
The victims were said to have reported the case at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, which consequently led to the arrest of the suspect by officers of Criminal Intelligence Department (CID) at Sango area, Ilorin.
The source further divulged that 105 bags of charcoal hidden by the suspect in a bush in Ijomu-Oro, in Irepodun Local Government area of the state, were recovered.
He said investigation is still ongoing to arrest other people who aided him in the crime.
