The race for who emerge the next council chairmen across the sixteen local governments of Kwara State has continue to attract attention as more aspirants continue to declare intention for the race.
The local government election is the next major political activity in Kwara after the last general election last year scheduled to hold in November.
The tenures of the incumbent council chairmen who are still under suspension is expected to lapse in November completing their three years constitutional terms of office.
Many of the interested aspirants in the ruling APC and opposition PDP have launched campaigns on many social media platforms and commenced tours of their constituency to sell their programmes.
Although the government through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hajia Ahman Pategi has said information regarding the conduct of the poll will be made available as soon as it is ready, leading opposition parties in the state led by the PDP has expressed reservations over the sincerity of the government to conduct the exercise.
”As at today, nothing has been said about it and the election is supposed to take place before the end of the year. KWASIEC has not been constituted and we know all these things are matters of law with timeframe that will allow parties to adequately prepare for it. But we are watching the situation very Keenly and will come out with a release over it soon, Kwara State chairman of the PDP, Engr Kola Shittu told National Pilot.
