Following the back backlash that had trailed the award of project to contractors outside the state, the Kwara State government have been caught in an alleged fraudulent act of repainting the signpost for the renovation of the Patigi Community School.
The rehabilitation of the school was reportedly awarded at the sum of N150m.
The issue went viral in many social media platforms in the state last week.
It was gathered that the first signpost erected which showed the name and address of the contractor who is an outsider from Lagos with the address Numbers Limited, No 13 Okunola Aina Street, Maryland, Lagos was removed overnight to another one last week with a change of address of the contractor but without the name of the name as “No 27 Kotongura Street, off Stadium Road, Ilorin”.
A source on Sunday who was in a Patigi confirmed the development to National Pilot adding that “I have seen it. It was there recently and I saw it myself.
“Yes, the signpost has been repainted. The people have been complaining about the fact that the contract was given to non local contactor while there are capable hands even from the district that can execute the work.
“This is very disturbing. I wanted to confirm it myself and that is why I came to confirm the veracity of the allegation. But alas, it was true, he added.
Speaking with a civil engineer on rules governing the display of signpost for the execution of contact, the federal worker based in the state said although he cannot confirm whether there is a particular code governing such action, signpost display has a pattern that is followed that must capture the contract awarded, the contactor, the supervising ministry and address among others.
