Victor Osimhen could still feature at the 2021 AFCON but while wearing a protective mask, according to reports out of Italy.
Napoli have announced that injured Osimhen will be out of action for about three months which will effectively rule him out of the AFCON, which kicks off on January 9, 2022.
However, fantacalcio has now reported that Osimhen could be back in training as early as January while wearing a protective mask.
He would also need to train alone and not with teammates to avoid physical contact.
Nigeria have already contacted Napoli as regards Osimhen’s availability for the AFCON with officials insisting they will not give up on any chance for the striker to lead the Super Eagles attack in Cameroon.
He was Nigeria’s top scorer in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers with five goals.
