Four suspected notorious armed robbers have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command.
The suspects were said to be members of a notorious armed gang terrorizing passengers and motorists along Isanlu Isin/ Ijara road in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The suspects namely Abdullahi Audi 30, Lawal Audi, 30, Bature Abdullahi, 25 and Issa Muhammed are said to be of the Bororo extraction.
According to Command’s spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, the suspects were nabbed while carrying out their operation along that axis.
“The Corps, in conjunction with the local vigilante group, VGN responded swiftly to a distress call in the early hours of Monday, 17/01/2022, around 0300hours that armed robbers in their large number ambushed motorists and passengers travelling inside a Toyota Sienna space car along Isanlu Isin- Ijara Isin road and dispossessed them of their valuables.
“The robbers have actually dispersed into the nearby bush by the time we arrived the scene of the robbery. With the help of the vigilante group( VGN) and the local hunters we were able to comb the nearby bush and rounded up four Fulani/ Bororos men suspected to be members of the robbery gang while manhunt has commenced to arrest other members of the gang”
Afolabi advised people to avoid night travel as criminals operate mostly at night time.
“The Commandant Makinde Iskil Ayinla would like to appeal to the motorists especially commercial drivers to avoid night travels and report any unusual movement or activities noticed in their neighborhood to the security agencies”.
In a related development, two suspects, Azeez Muhammed and Olorunwa Okikiola Oluwasegun have been thrown behind bars for stealing mobile phones.
The suspects were arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin for allegedly breaking into and robbing a phone shop.
According to the First Information Report obtained by National Pilot, the suspects were charged on four count charges of criminal conspiracy ,shop breaking, theft and receiving stolen property.
According to the police report , one Rafiu Yusuf reported that his shop situated at the Computer Village at Challenge, Ilorin, Kwara State was broken into and iphones worth twelve million naira were carted away.
“In the process, some of the iPhones were tracked to Muhammed who confessed to have sent eight iPhones to Oluwasegun, a resident of Ota ,Ogun State,to assist him in selling them, some of which were sold to unsuspecting buyers,” the reported added.
It was however gathered that the buyers have returned money to the owner of the phones.
However, the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges when it was read to them.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Nosiru Yusuf, then pleaded that the duo be remanded in the prison, in order for the police to complete investigation into the matter, noting that the offences are not bailable.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ibrahim Mohammed ordered that the two suspects be remanded in prison and also adjourned the matter till 4th of February, for further mentioning.
