The Lagos police command has launched a special operation code-named “operation flush” to curb traffic robbery in the state.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of Lagos police command, said the move followed the recent complaints by some residents on the resurgence of traffic robberies and other crimes in the state.
According to Hundeyin, Idowu Owohunwa, the commissioner of police in the state, convened a meeting with all area commanders, divisional police officers (DPOs), tactical commanders and other strategic officers on Thursday to review the situation.
“At the meeting, Owohunwa, unequivocally warned all DPOs against dereliction of duty, vowing that any officer found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with laid down rules,” Hundeyin said.
“He equally charged them to review their respective security architecture towards improving security in their respective AORs and stamping out completely, all forms of traffic robbery and other vices.
“To further consolidate this stance, the CP has launched a state-wide operation designed to identify exact trouble spots,
especially along construction areas, and flush out criminals, particularly traffic robbers and other miscreants. The operation code-named operation flush commences with immediate effect.
“In the same vein, the CP has urged residents and visitors to Lagos state to continue to support the police in the task of fighting crime and criminality by providing prompt information and giving all forms of assistance required of them.”
The CP assured Lagosians that the police would continue to partner with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the optimum safety and security of all residents.
