Five suspected kidnappers have been arrested by men of the Kwara State Police Command, for the abduction of one Usman Mohammadu of Osi in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara state.
The suspects were said to have kidnapped their victim along Osi/Odo-Owa road sometime last month.
The suspects are a farmer, 25-year-old Tambaya Abubakar, and 33 -year-old Babuga Umaru, a cattle rearer of Oro-Ago Fulani camp.
Others are 36 -year-old Sheu Umaru, a cattle rearer, 25 -year-old Abubakar Juli Tsaragi of no fix address, Mojumba Bello and Mamman Lawali, both 25 years of age and cattle rearer of Osi and Oke-Ode Fulani Camps.
According to a police source, the case was reported at the Ekiti Police Division by younger brother of the victim, Sanni Mohammadu.
“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives in collaboration with Vigilante men swung into action in search of the victim and the kidnappers.
“Sanni later reported back at the police station that his other sibling had secured the release of the victim after payment of N500,000 ransom to the kidnappers.” The police source divulged.
The source added that six of the suspects were arrested following intelligence by men of the state command.
“The victim’s phone and the total sum of N361,150.00 which was confirmed to be part of the ransom collected from the relation of the victim, were recovered from the suspect.
“The case was later transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Kwara Police headquarters where further investigation.
“The suspect confessed to have conspired together with Ahmadu Garso now at large to kidnap the victim for ransom.”
The source added that investigation is on going to get lead for the arrest of the suspect who is at large and other accomplices that may be involved in the crime.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he is not aware of the incident.
