Kwara female footballer gets U-17 call-up

 

Yemisi Osanyijobi, a player of Sure Babes Football Club of Ilorin has been invited to the Nigeria U-17 women’s camp, the Flamingoes.
According to the Media Manager of the club, Toyin  Saheed, the 15-year-old striker hits the national camp in Abuja on Wednesday and will train with the team on Thursday (today).
Yemisi, a right winger is one of the most proficient players of the Ilorin based female team and she was among the players that got promotion for Sure Babes in the just concluded Nigeria Women National League season.
Reacting to the gesture, the Chairman of the club, Mr. M.J Daudu described the player’s invitation to the national team as a good development.
“It is a good development and I want to urge other players to work hard. We have a lot of good players in the club and Yemisi is one of them and I hope others will get same opportunity very soon”, he said.
Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingoes played out a 1-1 draw away to their Ethiopian counterparts in Addis Ababa in the first leg of their qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Sunday.
The second leg will be played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Saturday, December 16, with the winners on aggregate advancing to the final round of qualifiers scheduled for February 2018.
Nigeria has featured at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals five times, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
