EFCC arrests, detains, ex- SGF Babachir Lawal

A former Nigerian Secretary to the Federal Government, Babachir Lawal has been arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over fraud allegations relating to grass cutting contracts.
Lawal is detained in the Abuja headquarters of the EFCC where he will face investigators over his role in the controversial contracts.
Babachir was removed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 following allegations that he diverted aid funds intended for the humanitarian crisis in the North-east Nigeria.
Lawal was indicted by a Committee of the Senate over award of contracts to companies he has interest in when he was the SGF.
His indictment in the contract scandal was also confirmed by a commitee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
This led to his sack by President Muhammadu Buhari some months ago.
