Kale Bayero, an alleged Ilorin-based notorious hoodlum was again dragged to the magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital for cultism and armed robbery.
Recall that he was remanded with 3 members of his gang last year for causing mayhem in Ilorin community.
In a substituted First Information Report (FIR), Kale was re-arraigned before Magistrate Muhammed Ibrahim with 7 of his gang members.
He was further remanded with Ibrahim Olatunde Elijah, Abeeb Azeez and Sikiru Jimoh, Yinka Alabi aka Cornel, Akeyede Ahmed, Lukman Rafiu.
They were all standing trial for the offences of criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, assault, causing hurt, mischief, attempt to commit culpable homicide, being members of Secret Cult and Armed Robbery contrary to section 97,113, 265, 247, 327, 229 of penal code law, section 2 punishable under section 12 of Secret Cult and Secret Societies (Prohibition) Law 2016, and section 6b (1) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Law of Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that one Alhaji Kawata Arikewuyo of Eruda Street, Ilorin, reported that he was at home when called upon to attend to an outcry of the community.
The FIR further stated that members of the community were chasing after the first accused person on the basis that he used his car to hit a woman and opted to run away.
The police report added that Bayero shunned the plea of Arikewuyo and other members of the community while also inviting his gang to join him in order to cause havoc.
His gang arrived the scene with gun and cutlasses and descended on the complainant, the police report said.
The complainant, according to the FIR sustained various degrees of injuries with 13 vehicles parked by the road side also destroyed in the mayhem.
Based on the strength of information to the police, the accused persons were arrested in their hideout.
Police investigation also revealed that the accused are members of Eiye confraternity initiated between 1996 to 2016 while Bayero is the leader of the cult group at Baboko area of Ilorin.
Investigation also added that the accused persons are the set of bandit that invaded the house of the complainant with guns and cutlasses and made away with his handset valued at N14,000 and cash worth N20,000.
The prosecutor, Yusuf Nasir prayed the court to remand the accused persons since it lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter.
He also objected bail application of the accused persons alleging that they may commit similar offence if granted bail.
On their parts, the accused persons’ counsels, one Ahmed and Ahmed Opalekunde informed the court that they will come formally for the bail application of their clients.
Magistrate Ibrahim in his short ruling ceded to the submission of the prosecutor as he admitted that the lack the jurisdiction to hear the matter but can only take cognisance of it.
He, therefore, ordered that Kale with his bandit be remanded while the matter was adjourned to 16th January, 2019.
