3 teenagers, one other remanded for raping girl, 14, in Ilorin

Three teenagers and one other were yesterday, remanded in Borstal Training Institute, Ganmo in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl(name withheld).
Three of the accused; Yakubu Mohammed, Amao Abdulrasaq, Abdulrafiu Qudus are 17 years of age while Ibrahim Babatunde who was said to be the leader of the group is 21. The quartet reside at Eruda area of Ilorin.
They were dragged before Magistrate Sherifat Olainipekun on the offence of criminal conspiracy and rape contrary to 97 and 282 of Penal Code Law.
The First Information Report (FIR) revealed that on 12th March, 2018, the case was transferred from ‘C’ Divisional Police station to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and referred to Anti Human Trafficking Women and Children Protection Unit.
It stated that the victim who was accompanied by one Abdulrasaq Jimoh reported that she was gang raped by the four accused.
The FIR stated further that the eldest of the gang, Babatunde held the legs of the victim while others were taking turn on her.
The counsel to the accused, Ogunleye Ogunfiayo however prayed the court for the bail stressing that they are minor who should be given preference.
Magistrate Olainipekun however reserve ruling on the matter even as he remanded the accused in Borstal home while the matter was adjourned to 21st March, 2018.
