KWSG distributes 110 transformers to rural communities – Gov’s Aide

The Kwara State government has distributed no fewer than 110 transformers to connect rural communities to the national grid to enhance economic development in the state.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Rural Energy Support Services, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi while fielding questions from Pilot Business at the weekend.

He said, ” The present administration under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has taken proactive steps  towards the  supply of power in the state, through the provision and installation of considerable number of transformers to different communities in the state.

“I wish to recall that in the last two years, the state government procured and installed over 110 transformers distributed to communities and we are doing this in order to improve and ensure steady power in these communities.

“All these efforts are aimed at enhancing the economic climate of our state to attract investors.

According to him, the government is committed to the electrification of the state, saying the project is designed to meet people’s basic needs to promote entrepreneurship, socio- economic and industrial development of the state.

Abdullahi stressed that the state government as part of efforts to ensure steady power supply to the rural area has also approved the extension of solar powered electricity to all towns and villages across the state.

“On our part as a government, we are doing everything humanly possible to synergise with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to ensure steady power supply to yield positive result for manufacturers and other commercial activities in the state,” he added.

He stated that this will also improve revenue collection in the state by Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS).

He also supported the recent policy by Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission that consumers can negotiate with electricity Generating Companies (Genco) directly on the supply of power to their factories.

“This arrangement by NERC is a welcome development because it will eliminate saboteurs by some of the Distributing Companies (Discos).

“It will bring a mutual understanding between consumers and electricity companies as their tariff will strictly be based on what they consumed.
