Men of the Kwara State police command have arrested a suspected highway robber, Sanni Tanko, who operated along Ilorin-Ajasse -Ipo road in the state.
The suspect was nabbed penultimate Saturday by vigilantes in the area while his gang members identified as Sukari Gambo, Garba, Bangaje and Rosha escaped arrest.
According to a police source, the case was reported to the Idofian Divisional police station by head of the vigilante group, Salisu Haruna.
The suspect was said to be a member of a notorious gang of armed robbers who specialise in laying ambush and robbing travellers on that road.
“While the vigilantes were on patrol they arrested the suspect and took him to the nearest police station. His other gang members escaped arrest,” a police source told Pilot Crime.
The case was reportedly transferred to the state Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department at the police command for further investigation.
“In the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. Investigation is still on and the suspect is helping the investigators on how his colleagues will be apprehended.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi denied knowledge of the case.
