Gabi agrees new Atletico deal

Gabi is set to pen new terms with Atletico Madrid this week.

The midfielder, reports AS, has agreed to a new contract with the Madrid giants.

Gabi will extend his deal from 2018 to 2019.

The 34 year-old, as per club policy, has accepted Atletico’s new one-year contract offer as is their approach to any player over 32 years of age.

Defender Juanfran has also been offered a new deal, though is still to accept.

Gunners battle Inter for  Vidal

Arsenal is eyeing Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal for January.

Tuttosport says Arsenal have been mooted as a potential destination for Vidal – but face fierce competition should they move for the Bayern Munich star.

Vidal’s future at Bayern has been called into question and he is in line to leave the Allianz Arena.

Now the Gunners have been mentioned as one of the sides keen on the 30-year-old.

However, it is Inter Milan who are believed to be leading the race, having wanted to take the ex-Juventus midfielder back to the club last summer.

Real Madrid face  Lucas  dilemma

Real Madrid faces a new dilemma over the future of Lucas Silva.

The Brazilian midfielder was sent back to Cruzeiro on-loan in January after failing to establish himself at Real.

However, UOL Esporte says while the loan runs to mid-2018, Cruzeiro are ready to cut short Silva’s stay and send him back to Europe.

Of 65 games this season, Silva only saw action in 31 – starting just 16.

The midfielder also could break the deal himself courtesy of a clause in the existing contract.

Man Utd ahead of Juve in race for Atletico star

Manchester United and Juventus are looking for defence reinforcements and both clubs are reported to have set sights on Atletico Madrid star José Maria Gimenez.

The 22-year-old is struggling with game time under Diego Simeone and both European giants are being linked with welcoming the player’s services in the summer.

The contract of Gimenez expires in 2021 and he has a € 65 million release clause included in his contract with the Colchoneros.

According to Spanish media the La Liga giants don’t want to sell the Uruguay International although his release clause can be triggered by any club.

Tuttosport, however, claims the Old Lady does not want to match the player’s release clause although an offer will be made by the bianconeri in the summer.

On the other hand, Manchester United could have enough money in the bank to sign Gimenez in the summer paying his release clause. Both clubs are interested but the Red Devils are in pole position at the moment.
