Iloffa/Odo-Owa Clash: Aloffa, Oloota react to restriction, 3 months’ pay forfeiture

The Aloffa of Iloffa, Oba Samuel Niyi Dada and the Oloota of Odo-Owa, Oba Joshua Adeyemi Adimula both of Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State have reacted to the forfeiture of 3-month salary and restriction of movement sanction meted out to them by the state government.

This was part of the State Executive Council resolutions after considering the White Paper on the report of the Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the communal clash between the two communities.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Haruna Tambiri stated that the two monarchs were not only banned from attending functions but were restricted to their domains for the period of 3months.

He added that the monarchs should not travel out of their domains except with the permission of their council chairman.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Alhaji Mahmoud Babatunde Ajeigbe said the council has directed that Iloffa/Odo-Owa common central market should henceforth be used only for commercial purposes.

Reacting to the restrictions imposed on them by the state government in separate interviews last night, the monarchs stated that they abide by the decision and the directives of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Oba Dada further stated that he has no intention to challenge or fault the decision of the government.

“It is the decision of government, what can I do about it,” he said even as he declined further comments on the issue.

His compatriot, Oba Adimula however refused to take a definite position on the ban but rather kept sealed lips on the pronouncement.

“I reserve every comment as regards government’s directives,” the Oloota said in his short response.

Recall that aside the ban imposed on the monarchs, Ajeigbe also said the market has been banned for any cultural or religious activities just as the Ministry of Justice was asked to commence prosecution of identified perpetrators of the violence during which no fewer than four lives were lost, 26 houses destroyed and other valuables consumed in the clash that erupted in the two communities on July 29, 2017.
