2019: Ex-PDP dep governorship aspirant, Yinka Aluko declares for Senate

Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2015 gubernatorial, election in the state, Yinka Aluko last night confirmed his senatorial ambition to this medium.
Aluko who is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said his resolve to challenge for the Kwara Central Senatorial ticket was encouraged by the people and borne out of conviction to provide a better option.
Before he decamped to the APC, he had been the only national officer of the then PDP from Kwara.
Speaking during a telephone chat last night with Pilot Politics, Aluko explained the reason he didn’t contest for the governorship seat this time around after his 2015 outing.
“I believe we have many people in the APC who are already out for governorship contest in the state and they are all good in their own right. There is the Sobi FM boss, Lukman Mustapha, we have Akeem Lawal among others.
“So, for those that are asking why I didn’t go for the governorship seat after my last deputy governorship race, I think the senate is not a bad choice because I believe I can also make impact in that position.
“I am a homeboy and accessible being driven and motivated by service to the people of my region this time around.
“The APC will be fielding popular candidates in every position because it’s what the people want. And believe I have what it takes to deliver the goods to them.
“As to the issue that there are other contenders also for the ticket, that is normal and we all know that the party will only have one candidate in every position at a time. But we will not disappoint the people”, he noted.
Aluko’s entry into the race is coming on the heels of report of similar moves by Senator Gbemisola Saraki and Comrade Musbaudeen Esinrogunjo among others in the APC.
