FIBA WWC: D’Tigress placed 8th, shifts focus to 2019 Afrobasketball

 

D’Tigress lost their second consecutive classification game against Canada in a closely contested match-up 73 points to 72.

D’Tigress as it was in the last three games, started very well and took the lead in the first and second quarter. The second quarter ended 35 points to 30 in favour of the D’Tigress.

The Nigerian ladies stressed the lead to the third quarter 49-54 and raised the hope that D’Tigress will end the tournament as the 7th best team at the tournament.

From the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Canadian girls returned with a renewed energy scoring points after points to displace the D’Tigress.

D’Tigress gave their utmost best but was not enough losing to Canada by a point. This means the Nigerian ladies finish 8th best team at the 2018 FIBA Women World Cup in Spain.

At the world cup, Nigeria played a total of seven matches against higher ranked countries, won three and lost four games.

With this, Nigeria became the first ever African country to advance to the FIBA Women World cup.

Having played the final match at the world cup, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has shifted the attention to the 2019 Afroasketball for women.Recall that the
