World Bank Assisted Project: 13 Kwara communities, 4 groups get N145m

 

Towards sustainable access of the poor to social and economic infrastructure, 13 communities and four vulnerable groups in Kwara State have been earmarked to benefit the sum of N145,984,970 for micro projects.
The benefiting communities are Tanke Ajanaku, Atanda, Okesuna-Isale-Maliki, Ikwah, Oloje, Dada and Kajola.
Others are Sabo Jokolu, Sabo, Egosi Ile, Akorede and Bokungi  while the groups are  Ojukokujo, Olalomi, Sokodebawu and Opeloyeru.
This was disclosed by the General Manager of Kwara State Community and Social Development, Engr. Amamat Oluwatoyin Haruna to newsmen on the  sideline of cheque presentation to three communities on Wednesday.
Speaking at the ceremony, the agency boss explained that Community Development Programmes (CDPs) under the scheme would be funded in the ratio of 90% by the state agency and 10% by the benefiting communities.
She further explained that Group Development Projects (GDPs) would be funded in the ration of 95% by the state agency and 5% by the Gender Vulnerable Groups.
“Release of the funds by the state agency will be in tranches to micro projects in conformity with their ranking within the approved CDPs and GDPs of communities and Gender and Vulnerable Groups respectively,” she added.
Haruna noted that the objective of the CSDP is to strengthen the self help capacities of communities, promote development partnership including co-financing of development between government and communities while promoting projects’ ownership and sustainability.
She expressed hope that  the Local Government Areas in the state will adopt and incorporate the Community Driven Development approach into their development planning process.
Representatives of the benefiting communities who spoke differently at the events, assured that the fund will be judiciousy utilised for the development of their respective domains.
