Man remanded over alleged theft, extortion in Ilorin

The magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital has remanded one Suleiman Ismail for allegedly collecting motorcycle from one Aliyu Suleiman at gun point.
The complainant, Suleiman of Popo-Giwa, Ilorin, in the First Information Report reported the case at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office that his Bajaj motorcycle was forcefully collected by the accused person and his gang.
Investigations conducted into the alleged offences by the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the NSCDC revealed that the accused person with his gang now at large, forcefully collected the Bajaj motorcycle from Suleiman at the APC rally held at Agbo-Oba axis of the state capital.
Further investigations into the matter revealed that after the Bajaj motorcycle was forcefully collected from Suleiman, he went to APC Secretariat in search of the culprit, he was approached by the accused person who demanded a ransom from him.
Suleiman paid a ransom of N23,000 to Suleiman yet the motorcycle was not returned to him.
The accused was dragged before Magistrate Miriam Kamson for criminal conspiracy, cheating, extortion and theft, contrary to sections 96, 230, 290 and 286 of penal code and punishable under section 97, 322, 292 and 287 of the penal code law.
In his submission, the prosecutor, Bode Silas prayed the court to remand the accused person on the basis that other suspected members of the gang are still at large.
He added that if the court admits the accused to bail, it may jeopardise the investigation.
The magistrate in his ruling remanded the accused person in prison custody and adjourned the matter to 20th February, 2019.
