Tasks before sports minister, Sunday Dare
Nigerian Sports ministry finally got a minister after the less inspiring tenure of Barr. Solomon Dalung.
Dalung during his term in office hugged the headlines for his several controversial statements, actions and inaction. He made little friends but countless enemies and more importantly, there was insignificant success recorded by our various national teams and athletes.
Now that there is a new man in the ministry, in person of Sunday Dare; sports enthusiasts across the country will expect the veteran journalist to set our sports on the right track.
Dare, must avoid the tag of ‘football minister’ by not concentrating on the round leather game alone. Additionally, he must ensure the female national teams (Falcons and Falconets) get similar recognition like their male compatriots. He must consistently monitor the finances of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to avoid an eye on how the………..
Under his watch, Dare needs to encourage grassroots/schools sports in order to discover budding talents and nurture them to stardom.
The Minister must ensure that funds are released on time for major competitions and that such funds are used for their intended purposes.
More importantly, Dare must cleanse the various federations of corrupt practices. To achieve this task, he may need to move the office of anti-graft agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related crimes Commission (ICPC).
