Ilorin East wins maiden Kwara governor’s cup
Ilorin East Local Government, yesterday defeated Kaiama Local Government to win the first U-15 Kwara Governor’s Cup by a lone goal to nil.
The match which was played at the main bowl of Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin had in attendance members of Kwara State House of Assembly, soccer enthusiasts, among others.
Prior to the final clash, Ilorin East had defeated Ilorin West Local Government 3-1 at the semis to book a date with Kaiama, while Kaiama edged Offa Local Government by a lone goal to qualify for the final.
The first half of the encounter witnessed a goal drought from both teams as none of the club was able to find the back of the net.
At exactly 65 minutes into the second half of the game, Ibrahim Tohib netted for Ilorin East Local Government with a superb strike beneath the box.
All efforts by Kaiama boys to get an equalizer proved abortive as Ilorin East Local Government shut down all their technicalities.
Woo befell Kaiama Local Government when their defender was given a red card following an infringement on their opponents.
The third place match played earlier between Ilorin West Local Government and Moro Local Government ended 4-1 in favour of Ilorin West.
