32-yr-old motorcylist remanded for allegedly raping trader in Kwara

A 32 years old motorcylist, Aremu Oriyomi, was yesterday, remanded in
Oke-Kura prison custody for allegedly having forceful canal knowledge
of one Tawakalitu Abdullahi in Shao, Moro Local Government Area, Kwara
State.
Oriyomi was arraigned before the Kwara State family court, presided
over by Magistrate Shade Lawal.
He was charged for the offence of criminal assault and rape contrary
to section 266 and 282 of penal code law.
The case was transferred to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence
Department from Shao Divisional Police Headquarters and eventually
referred to Anti Human Trafficking Women and Children Protection Unit,
for discreet investigation.
The defendant, who resides at Isale Are area of Shao, according to the
Police First Information Report (FIR) was said to have raped the
victim in the bush while pretending to be rendering her transportation
service.
The FIR stated that Tawakalitu asked the defendant to take her home
but took her to a hotel on pretext that he want to collect something
there.
The FIR revealed that Oriyomi, in a bid to perpetrate his nefarious
act, wasted the victim’s time by taking her to a filing station to buy
fuel and later to an uncompleted building in the bush.
While driving towards the uncompleted facility, the police report
disclosed that Tawakalitu tried to escape by jumping off the bike, a
development that made her sustain serious injuries on her left hand.
The defendant was said to have come down from the bike to threaten
Tawakalitu with a knife, then, forcefully had sexual intercourse with
her, right in the bush.
Inspector Ogunleye Olasupo, prayed the court to order the remand of
the defendant in prison custody.
The prosecutor maintained that the offence of the accused is not
ordinarily bailable and that police investigation is still on going
over the matter.
The magistrate, ceded to the submission of the prosecutor and ordered
the defendant’s remand in prison custody.


 …another granted bail for defiling minor

The Kwara State family court, yesterday, granted bail to an 18-
year-old Michael Clement who allegedly raped a minor (name withheld),
in Owu-Isin, Isin Local Government Area of the state.
The case was transferred to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence
Department from Owu-Isin Divisional Police Headquarters and eventually
referred to Anti Human Trafficking Women and Children Protection Unit,
for discreet investigation.
Clement was dragged before magistrate Shade Lawal for the offence of
unlawful sexual intercourse with child contrary to section 31 of Kwara
State Child’s right law.
The FIR stated that the defendant with his friend Pius Peter of Oke
Imole compound both accosted the victim while she was selling soya
bean cake.
The FIR added that the duo asked the victim to follow them to their
house on pretext that they wanted to buy  from her wares.
Peter reportedly asked the victim to help them prepare yam flour with
the promise that they will buy the soya bean cake when she might have
made the meal.
After she had finished cooking the meal, the police report disclosed
that she took it to the room where to her dismay, met only Clement.
According to FIR, the defendant grabbed the victim and pushed her on
bed where he forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
It was the landlord, one Mr Bakare who eventually rescued the victim,
the police report disclosed.
The prosecutor, Adisa, in his submission, prayed the court to remand
the defendant in prison custody.
He added that granting the defendant bail may not be healthy to the
society, saying he might commit similar offence.
Magistrate Lawal, in his ruling, granted the defendant bail while the
matter was adjourned to 13th November, 2019.
