Akogun, 30 others bag Unilorin’s Merit Awards

… Akorede emerges Researcher of the Year

 

The Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle
Akogun; and a Deputy Registrar and Secretary, College of Health
Sciences, University of Ilorin, Mrs. M. A. Oladosu; were among the 31
staff that won the institution’s Merit Awards for the 2018/2019
academic session in recognition of their contributions to the
attainment of the mission and vision of the University.
Also, the Deputy Director of the Laboratory to Product Centre
(LABTOP), University of Ilorin, Dr Akorede Mudathir Funsho, was named
the institution’s Researcher of the Year at an elaborate ceremony in
the University’s Multipurpose Hall, last Wednesday.
Among the Merit Award winners were; Mrs. Elizabeth Nnaji, Mr. Ahmed A.
Adebayo, Mr. Raphael Segun Abegunde, Mr. Augustine Dele Olatoye, Mrs.
Bola Momodu, and Mr. I. O. Akande.
Others include Mrs. Rachael Y. Ogedengbe, Mr. Nasiru M. Onare, Mr. I.
J. Olorunyomi, Mr. Otitoloju Johnson, Mr. Benjamin O. Akerele, Mr.
Mustapha Ndagi, Mrs. B. A. Dosumu, Mr. Ochenika Ibrahim, Mr. Jimoh O.
Ahmed, Mr. Ekunnrin A. Yanmife and Mr. Aliyu Bawan Garba.
Also on the list were; Mrs. Kolawole Alabi Paulina, Mr. I. Kolade, Mr.
O. Olotu, Mr. Sunday Charles Dada, Mrs Bosede Adewumi, Mrs Caroline
Ajoke Adesua, Mr. Adedeji Fatai, Mrs Fatima Garba Raimi, Mr Oloyede
Abdulwaheed, and Mr. Sanni Abdullahi.
While the former Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Clement
Bewaji, bagged the Best Sportsman of the Year, the former Director of
the University’s Central Research Laboratories, Prof. (Mrs.) Adenike
Oladiji, was named the Best sportswoman of the Year.
Also at the award ceremonies, 10 retired professors of the institution
were honoured. They are Prof. Isaac Olakanmi Abimbola, Prof. Adeyinka
Adenrele Adesiyun, Prof. Adebisi Funsho Adedayo, Prof. Tunde Ajiboye,
Prof. Jekayinfa Alice Arinlade, Prof. Adetayo Ebun Talabi, Prof.
Samuel Babatunde Agaja, Prof. Gabriel Ademola Olatunji, Prof. Claudius
Omoyele Daramola, and Prof. Solomon Olorundare.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem,
appreciated all the staff for their hard work and cooperation, which,
according to him ensured the series of successes the University
attained in the last one year.
Prof. Abdulkareem, who was visibly delighted with the positive
outcomes of the Convocation ceremonies urged staff members not to keep
positive ideas on how the University could be better run to
themselves. He implored them to always offer him advice, saying that
such support would not only be useful to him but also the institution.
He reminded the staff and students on the importance of research,
innovations and good ideas to the success of the University, adding
that all hands must be on deck “to take the University to the glorious
level.”
The honourees were presented with commemorative plaques and various
gift items in appreciation of their distinguished services to the
University while the star prize of a Toyota Corolla Car was presented
to Dr. Akorede for emerging the Researcher of the Year.
In his reaction, Dr. Akorede, expressed his gratitude to the
management of the ‘Better by Far’ University for recognising his
humble efforts with a very significant prize.
He said that the award would spur him to offer more services to the
University adding that it would also stimulate the spirit of healthy
competition among staff and students with the ultimate impact of
improving the frontiers of the institution.
The don dedicated the award to the entire staff and students of his
Department and Faculty, whose cooperation, fraternity and
encouragement had achieved what precipitated the award.
The event, which was spiced with good music and food and drinks, was
attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. B.
F. Sule; his Research, Innovations and Technology counterpart, Prof.
M. O. Buhari and the Registrar, Dr. Fola M. Olowoleni.
Others were; the Bursar, Mr. H. O. Sonde; the Librarian, Prof. A. O.
Issa; the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. O. A.
Adedoyin; and the Chairman of the Ceremonials Committee and Deans of
various faculties.
