Driving profession has gone beyond hooliganism – NURTW

 

The chairman, National Union of Road Transports Workers (NURTW), Ilorin, Alhaji Omotayo Hassan, has urged members in the state and nationwide to live up to expectations by projecting image of the union.
He said this statement during his swearing-in as the Ilorin Metro chairman (buses) of the NURTW.
According to him, driving profession has far gone beyond hooliganism as the profession has within it highly intellectuals with track records in their various field of academic callings.
“Gone are the days when drivers are tagged bad and useless people in the society. Many of our members are well educated. So the impression that driving profession is for the riff raffs has changed over decades”, he said.
He also challenged all drivers in the state and Nigeria in general to continue to showcase the profession as one of the best as doing this will encourage more youths to embrace it and make good living out of it.
Omotayo further pledged his commitment to see to welfare of all members under his jurisdiction at all times urging them to shun negative vices that could tarnish image of the union.
Present at the occasion were representative of NURTW president, Prof. Ibikunle Baruwa, the state chairman Alhaji Abdulrazaq Abdulkareem (Ariwoola) and other top members of the union within and outside the state.
