Senate confirms Ajidagba, 5 INEC REC

The Senate has confirmed Dr Uthman AbdurRahman Ajidagba as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
Senate President Bukola Saraki, while announcing Ajidagba names and five other RECs during the plenary session on Wednesday, stated that “they are coming at a very important time.”
Those confirmed are Baba Abba Yusuf (Borno); Dr. Uthman Abdulrahman Ajidagba (Kwara); Mr. Segun Agbaje (Ekiti); Dr. Cyril Omorogbe (Edo); Dr. Emmanuel Alex Hart (Rivers); and Mohammed Mogaji Ibrahim (Gombe).
Until his confirmation, Ajidagba was the chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSEIC) for close to six years and supervised two council elections.
His nomination went viral in the state few months back shortly after he concluded the last council elections in the state.
The confirmation had been highly anticipated back home in the state by many Kwarans who were looking forward to the conduct of the bye election.
Meanwhile, the KWASIEC PRO, Mr. Akanbi Solomon said the decision of the by-election rested solely on the Kwara state government, and it is decision of the government to give a date for it as there are some clauses in the electoral laws that give rooms for perpetual injection.
He said the financial implication of the election rested squarely on the state government and soon the Kwara state government would fix a date for it.
