
In a bid to shore up the revenue profile of the Kwara State University, and make his dream to transform KWASU into financially Sustainable institution a reality,
the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Mustapha Akanbi SAN on Friday inaugurated the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Board, tagged “KWASU Revenue Generating Board” (KRGB) for the University.
The 10-man board will be saddled with responsibilies of developing strategic directions and providing regulatory frameworks for the newly 17 internally Generated Revenue (IGR) centres introduced by the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akanbi.
Inaugurating the board, Professor Akanbi said the institution would explore creativity and ingenuity for its revenue drive, adding that the University will not increase school fees to sustain its economy.
He noted that increasing school fees is not an option as every child deserves qualitative and affordable education.
Akanbi, further said his dream is to make KWASU products available in every household in Kwara, adding that it is important that the varsity must have impact on Kwarans and contribute to economy of the state.
“Our research should not be on research sake, we have to commercialise and turn our researches to business. For us in KWASU, the word impossible only exists in our dictionary,” he stressed.
He explained that the essence of putting the board in place is to prevent financial wastages and block leakages.
While noting that the mandate of the board is to improve revenue generation, the Vice Chancellors urged members of the newly inaugurated board to make needed sacrifice towards achieving success in the task assigned to them.
The KWASU boss also tasked directors of various units in the institution to think outside the box, embrace fresh ideas and synergize with each other to achieve common goal.
Members of the board are Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Omololu Fapojuwo is the Chairman of the board while Professor Mathew Odedokun is an alternate Chairman.
Other members of the board include KWASU former Deputy Bursar, Mr Mohammed Ndache who is the Director General (DG) of the board; the Director Audit, Mr Oba Akanbi Wahab is a member; a representative of Registry Unit, Mr Lateef Lawal a member; the Budget Officer, Mr Salaudeen Ibrahim is a member; the Vice President Finance Approximation Practice of the KWACCIMA, Engr Abu Salami, is an external member; the KWASU Deputy Bursar, Mr Folohunsho Dauda is a member; Professor Ibrahim Arowosaye Yusuf of the University of Ilorin is a Legal and Compliance Adviser; and Mrs Stella Moria Soladoye who is also an external member.
Responding, the Chairman of the board, Professor Omololu Fapojuro who doubles as the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, expressed readiness of members to move the university to higher financial pedestal.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor for the opportunity to serve, just as he stated avowed commitment of the board to justify the confidence reposed in it.
The chairman expressed happiness that the board and units are populated with intelligent and hardworking individuals required to achieve the desired outcome.
Present at the event were the school Registrar Alhaji Mohammed Ajibola Shuaib, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Professor Sheikh Lukman, Ag. Bursar Mr Abubakri Sanni, and the University Library Coordinator, Dr (Mrs) Florence Ajani and directors of various revenue generating units among others.
